ARCBALL

In march of 2017, I started my Internship at Happy Volcano in Leuven.

During the internship I worked on several projects, most notably the game they have in the works, The Almost Gone. They had me work on weather particles to help the look and feel of the game and I soon moved on to polishing several effects that got used in the puzzles of the first level. I also helped on brainstorming and prototyping the art of thesecond level. I was especially happy I got to take my first dip in shader writing while working on several effects.

Next up was a project for a client that I sadly can't show of, since it hasn't been released yet! I did UI, polish and a shop system for a small mobile game. I learned a ton about the game development process in general, as this was a one month project.

At the end of my internship, I got some great news. Happy Volcano wanted to hire me! I came back for a month as a student worker, and in October I got full on hired!

I got to work on several different projects, some unreleased so I can't really talk about them.

The main focus of my employment was working on The Almost Gone again, and I got to make several shaders, and come up with several art/tech solutions for problems with the game. I also got to practice animation again, and helped polish the second level as well.

Then around christmas Me and Sofia, one of our talented interns, got to work on a small christmas card project. Super fun to work on, and done in a week.

A little later, I helped on another client project, with very strict optimization restrictions. needless to say I learned a lot from that.

Sadly, at the moment of writing, the Happy Volcano Journey is almost over. Still, I have learned a ton from my time here, and got the chance to work with some great people! Thanks a ton guys!

Be sure to check them out on social media, they're a super talented bunch of people!
